We’ve so been enjoying the return of the warm spring sunshine — and watching The Royal Exchange terraces fill with like-minded folk looking for a suntrap to relax in. It’s the perfect weather for wine, and May has not one but two global celebrations of some of our favourite vintages. Oeno House is featuring some very special bottles for these, as well as running several fabulous events at its boutique.

For Sauvignon Blanc Day on the 2nd of May, the brand is celebrating with this Freemark Abbey Sauvignon Blanc 2020, Napa Valley, USA. It’s a vibrant Napa Valley expression that’s bright, aromatic, and refreshingly crisp — just the thing for a May afternoon, whether enjoyed on the Oeno terrace, or savoured at home with friends and good food. Expect notes of mandarin, grapefruit, cantaloupe, apricot and lemongrass, and pair it with a perfect platter of fruits de mer, a garden salad, poultry — or simply enjoy it on its own.

And on the 22nd, raise a glass to elegance with the citrus-forward Thamnus Chardonnay 2021, layered with dried orange peel, blossom and a hint of fresh ginger. A flinty minerality from its maritime influence and a subtle touch of French oak bring both freshness and complexity, perfect with seafood, poultry or light vegetarian dishes.
