Valentine’s Day
A date to remember.
From lovers’ breakfasts to romantic evening rendezvous, The Royal Exchange’s stunning central courtyard makes it the perfect setting for the food of love.
Start the day sweetly with breakfast at Ladurée. After all, what could be more romantic than whispering sweet nothings over the stunning creations of this Parisian patisserie? Indulge in the food of love with a tantalising heart-shaped brioche crowned in pink praline — “made with an extra helping of love and care from the Maison’s pastry chefs,” says the brand. Then take home one of Ladurée’s beautiful macaron gift boxes — decorated with red hearts and containing a secret “I love you” note inside.
That evening, dine in delight at Fortnum & Mason — “the most Instagrammable restaurant in London” (The Evening Standard) — and make sure your surroundings look just as good as you do. The Royal Exchange and Fortnum’s are a match made in heaven — and February 14 sees the brand pull out all the stops to serve up a special Valentine’s menu alongside romantic live music.
Enjoy a glass of Fortnum’s Brut Rosé Champagne on arrival, along with an amuse-bouche of Barber’s Cheddar and Black Winter Truffle Gougère. Then for starters try the Seared Scallops with Cauliflower, Capers and Raisins, or decadent Steak Tartare. Mains include a choice of Seaweed Baked Celeriac with Spinach, Vermouth Sauce and Caviar, and Beef Wellington with Fondant Potato, Green Beans and Peppercorn Sauce. Finish off a perfect evening with Pear Tart Tatin or Valrhona Dark Chocolate Fondant with Raspberries and Marshmallow. Then take home a bottle of something special from the brand’s in-store retailer — and let the celebrations continue.
You should also make sure to check out The Libertine’s special release of Valentine’s-themed cocktails, available only on the day. These are the delicious Strawberry Paloma — with Olmeca Altos tequila, lemon, strawberries and London Essence pink grapefruit soda — and the delightful Berry Crush, made with Absolut vodka, crème de cassis, cranberry and raspberries.
