    Sweet talk: Ladurée

The esteemed French baker and confectioner is now open at The Royal Exchange

Pass by a Ladurée boutique and you can’t help but be drawn in by the gorgeous, towering displays of its signature macarons. Step inside and you’ll discover a whole world of patisserie perfection, from delicious and creative pastries to all manner of gourmet treats.

The Royal Exchange is delighted to welcome the baker and confectioner as its latest addition. Ladurée has a long and storied history that stretches back to 1862, when an enterprising Louis Ernest Ladurée created a bakery at 16 rue Royale in Paris. In the centuries since, the confectioner has brought the refined atmosphere of its Parisian tearooms to locations across the globe.

At the heart of its success are its world-renowned macarons. Their story begins in the middle of the 19th century with Pierre Desfontaines, who had the idea of the double-decker macaron, sandwiching these delicate, almond-based shells together with a creamy, ganache filling. To this day Ladurée continues to innovate, with the confection available in a dazzling array of flavours to suit any taste. These range from tried-and-tested classics including chocolate, pistachio and vanilla to intriguing combinations, such as almond and lucuma and green tea with moringa.
