MY CITY: GEORGE BAMFORD
The founder of Bamford Watch Department and Bamford Grooming Department on living and working in London and loving what you do
WHERE IN LONDON DO YOU LIVE AND WORK?
I work in Mayfair and have been there for a long time. I live walking distance from my office so I’m very lucky.
WHAT’S YOUR EARLIEST MEMORY OF THE CITY?
One of my earliest memories is going into Hamleys and realising just how amazing this one kids toy store was – going there is one of my earliest memories and such happy memories as a child.
WHAT MAKES LONDON SPECIAL TO YOU?
I love the buzz. I think, culturally, it is such a wonderful city. It’s so diverse and cool, anywhere in London you can see a different culture and get inspired.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE LONDON IN THREE WORDS?
Vibrant, positive, British.
WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE LONDONER?
Sherlock Holmes
WHAT’S YOUR MORNING RITUAL?
I get up early and I love going for a run in London. Working from home is a little bit different and I’m sad that I’m not seeing my team, but my morning ritual is largely the same. I believe that routine is always a good thing.
WHAT DO YOU DO TO KEEP A GOOD WORK/LIFE BALANCE?
If you were to ask my wife, she would probably say that I don’t have a good work/life balance. Honestly, I don’t know. I’m just so fortunate that I love what I do and I love home life. I don’t know if I have a perfect balance, I just enjoy it all.
WHAT’S THE BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ IN THE PAST SIX MONTHS?
I read Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, and I also reread Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike by Phil Knight, because I think that’s awesome.
WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?
I like the Winston Churchill quote: ‘Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.’
