    Join us for an exclusive workshop for London Craft Week

    Learn new skills in your lunch break with a series of innovative craft workshops at this year’s The Makers’ Market at The Royal Exchange

    For the second iteration of The Makers’ Market at The Royal Exchange, in association with London Craft Week, we have introduced a series of workshops and masterclasses with our artisan stallholders, and we’d love for you to take part. Whether you want to get artistic by creating a bespoke painted chess piece with Purling or have a go at making your own fragrance with Maya Njie, this is your chance to get crafty in one of London’s most iconic buildings.

    Read below to discover what’s on offer and to book your spot. All participants will receive a complimentary glass of prosecco or sparkling tea on arrival courtesy of The Fortnum’s Bar & Restaurant at The Royal Exchange.

     

    WHAT IS IT?

    Paint your own chess piece with Purling Ltd

    WHEN?

    Tuesday 10 May, 12-2pm

    Join professional artist and creative lead for Purling Gosia Ɓapsa-Malawska to experience a live painting session of your very own chess piece. The luxury games manufacturer will guide you through painting a rook and encourage you to express your artistic flare!

    WHAT IS IT?

    Stitch an umbrella rosette with James Ince Umbrellas

    WHEN?

    Tuesday 10 May, 3-5pm

    Learn how to hand-stitch a luxury rosette embellishment onto your umbrella with James Ince Umbrellas, Britain’s oldest umbrella maker. You can either bring in your own umbrella or buy one on the day. You’ll learn this unique and traditional skill, which involves making a rosette from a single piece of fabric woven around the ribs of your umbrella, with plenty of vibrant colours and patterns to choose from.

    Create your own leather key fob with Carréducker

    WHEN?

    Thursday 12 May, 12-2pm

    This is your chance to learn the beauty of leathercraft with Deborah Carré and James Ducker, co-founders of bespoke leather shoemaker Carréducker. The pair will guide you through the process of crafting your very own leather key fob to take home using vegetable-tanned leather and Italian hardware.

    Create woven art with Cassandra Sabo

    WHEN?

    Thursday 12 May, 3-5pm

    Try your hand at loom weaving with designer and hand-weaver Cassandra Sabo. Cassandra will guide you through the process of designing simple textiles and basic weaving techniques on a hand loom using sustainable yarns.

    WHAT?

    Create your own bespoke fragrance with perfumer Maya Njie

    WHEN?

    Friday 13 May, 12-2pm

    TELL ME MORE

    Cult perfumer Maya Njie is teaching this exclusive workshop where participants will learn how to mix and blend a variety of ingredients to create a bespoke signature fragrance. You will explore a variety of natural and synthetic ingredients that are commonly used in perfumery and will receive a kit containing a 20ml glass dropper bottle to tailor to your own preference, along with a 7.5ml vial to decant into. You will also be working from your own formula booklet.

    HEALTH & SAFETY

    Please be aware that we will be working with diluted ingredients commonly used in perfumery and some contain allergens (many of which are naturally occurring in essential oils). There will be a declaration of these as part of the course introduction, if you have sensitive skin, please take this into consideration and consult your doctor beforehand if unsure.
