What’s on this December

The Christmas countdown has commenced and the festive activity at The Royal Exchange this month is guaranteed to delight the senses

MUSIC TO YOUR EARS

There’s nothing quite like the power of music to get you feeling festive, and The Royal Exchange has an exciting programme of performances to look forward to, spanning a range of musical genres. Every Tuesday and Thursday from 7pm, Fortnum & Mason is hosting a series of live music acts in the courtyard, with performers including soulful singer Dee and her band, and the finely groomed The Gents, setting a magical atmosphere in which to savour the bar and restaurant’s delicious selection of food and drinks.

The front steps of The Royal Exchange will also be graced by choral groups throughout the festive season, with the Soul Sanctuary Gospel Choir performing on Thursday 12 December from 5.30-7.30pm, and the London City Singers set to take the spotlight on Thursday 19 December 5.30-7.30pm.

WATCH THIS SPACE

A beautifully crafted watch is an elegant addition to any festive party outfit, and Omega has launched two new pieces, available at The Royal Exchange boutique, just in time for Christmas. Following the new look of Omega’s women’s modern Constellation Manhattan model, it has released a selection of pieces featuring blue aventurine dials (pictured above), sometimes called sang-e setareh (sang meaning ‘stone’, and setareh meaning ‘star’ in Persian). Each aventurine glass dial is unique, and the glass is translucent. For men, the Omega Seamaster 300 model (pictured top) is an iconic watch with a history dating back to 1957, and the latest variation features a striking green malachite dial set in 18ct gold.

EAT, DRINK AND BE MERRY

For many, food and drink is at the heart of Christmas and, with feelings of nostalgia high, look no further than the historic Fortnum & Mason, which is holding wine tastings and pairings at its boutique in The Royal Exchange every Friday throughout December from 5pm, tantalising your taste buds with festive fare.

Year after year, the gift of food is something that never fails and one of the newest additions to The Royal Exchange, Rococo Chocolates, has an exquisite selection of confectionery to choose from, presented in handmade gift boxes that come ribboned and ready for Christmas Day. From festive nibbles and aromatic limited-edition Christmas artisan bars to decadent truffle boxes, there is something to please all the family. And for work colleagues, Rococo’s corporate gifting service caters to all manner of budgets and occasions, from saying thank you to your clients to celebrating a new launch.

GOOD AS NEW

Journal_UrbanVeda

Ayurvedic skincare brand Urban Veda’s pop-up at The Royal Exchange will stay open for late-night shopping until 8pm on 12 and 19 December. Shoppers who make purchases between 10am and 8pm on the late night opening days will receive a goody bag full of delicious vegan snacks, Indian spices and an Urban Veda travel kit. Visitors to the boutique on these dates can also enjoy a facial or massage, which includes a skin consultation and a 30-minute treatment. The treatments require a £20 deposit, which is then redeemable against product purchased in the boutique. To book a treatment, call in to the store or phone +44 (0)7500946846. The brand is also collaborating with recycling and waste management service Wastecare, to accept and recycle skincare containers from any brand, so take your empties along to the boutique during the pop-up, which is open until 24 December.

UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL

TRE_December_Whats_On

A luxury gift is often a well-deserved treat for loved ones at this time of year, but adding a personal touch will elevate it to new heights, and at The Royal Exchange there are a number of ways to put your own stamp on presents for friends and family. Engraving services are available at Georg Jensen, Montblanc, Aspinal of London and Tiffany & Co., and the latter two, alongside Smythson and SageBrown, also provide embossing for leather goods. Fortnum & Mason offers personalisation to its Fortnum’s champagne and gin bottles throughout the year, making thoughtful gifts for all special occasions and celebrations.

You can even give Leica’s digital and analogue M cameras a design upgrade, with a choice of premium leather trims and personalised engraving options, and the Leica City Store at The Royal Exchange will be holding late-night shopping until 7.30pm on Wednesday 11 and Wednesday 18 December.
